JUST IN :- Gender Mobile, ICPC To Hold Conference On Sexual Harassment Prevention

To prevent the menacing trend of sexual harassment at tertiary institutions in Nigeria, a civil society organisation, Gender Mobile Initiative; in partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) will hold a stakeholders’ engagement on sexual harassment prevention at universities, polytechnics and colleges of education in the country.



Titled, ‘A Consultative Policy Dissemination and Implementation Conference of Stakeholders on Sexual Harassment Prevention in Tertiary Education Institutions’, the event will hold on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at the Abuja Continental Hotel, Wuse, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).


According to the Executive Director of Gender Mobile Initiative, Omowumi Ogunrotimi, keynote speakers at the programme include Education Minister, Prof Tahir Mamman; Women Affairs Minister, Barr Uju Kennedy Ohanenye; and ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Aliyu. 


The event will also be attended by legislators of relevant commitees, state commissioners of education, student union bodies, policy makers in the education sector, amng others.


Ogunrotimi said the event aims to address the pervasive issue of sexual harassment on campuses, with a comprehensive focus on prevention frameworks to significantly prevent the social menace.


“Sexual harassment in educational institutions is a grave concern that undermines the safety, dignity, and academic integrity of both victims and institutions. 


“It is imperative that we create a learning environment where all students and educators can pursue their goals free from fear and intimidation. To achieve this, it is essential to implement comprehensive policies and effective prevention strategies,” she said.
