The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone D (Southwest) strongly condemns the recent act of brutality and reckless shooting by a member of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), known as "Oriade," who also serves as a Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.

This unfortunate incident, which occurred in Egbedi town, Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State, is not only a gross violation of human rights but also a significant threat to the peace and security of the state.

We, as the voice of Nigerian students in the Southwest, will not sit idly while individuals entrusted with public office abuse their influence and resort to violence against the citizens they are meant to protect.

It is highly disturbing that a government official would engage in such reckless and barbaric acts, undermining the trust of the people and creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.

In light of this, we call on His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, to take immediate action by calling "Oriade" to order and ensuring that justice is served.

The people of Osun State deserve leaders who uphold the rule of law, not individuals who instigate violence and disrupt public peace.

Furthermore, we strongly urge security operatives to remain vigilant and proactive in maintaining law and order.

The safety of every citizen should be a top priority, and as such, we call on the police and other relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate this incident, hold the perpetrator accountable, and prevent any recurrence of such unwarranted aggression.

The National Association of Nigerian Students, Zone D, will not tolerate any form of injustice, intimidation, or violence against the people of Osun State and beyond.

We remain committed to advocating for peace, security, and the fundamental rights of every citizen.

We appeal to all students, youths, and stakeholders in the state to remain calm and law-abiding as we monitor the situation closely.

We expect prompt and decisive action from the Osun State Government and security agencies to restore confidence in the state’s leadership and security architecture.

Signed,

COMR. ODUOLA ABDULAZEEZ ADESINA
