The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, under the coordination of Comrade Owolewa Taiwo, is utterly disappointed and enraged by the inaction and silence of the Oyo State Government and the Oyo State Police Command regarding the brutal and unjust killing of a WAEC candidate by officers of the Nigeria Police in Ibadan on May 20, 2025.
It has been over 24 hours, yet neither Governor Seyi Makinde nor the Oyo State Commissioner of Police has taken meaningful steps to ensure justice is served. No arrests. No suspension. No public statement. No compassion.
This silence is not only deafening, it is deliberate, disgraceful, and dangerous.
By their failure to act, Governor Makinde and the Oyo CP have become complicit in this extrajudicial killing.
By their failure to act, Governor Makinde and the Oyo CP have become complicit in this extrajudicial killing.
Their actions suggest a sinister alliance with rogue officers who have made it a habit to kill innocent students without consequence. This is state-enabled violence. This is systemic oppression.
We, the students of the Southwest and the broader Nigerian youth, will no longer tolerate this brutality and official indifference.

The blood of our fellow comrade cannot be swept under the rug by political silence and police cover-ups.
We hereby:
1. Call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police to immediately intervene, take over the investigation, and bring all involved officers and their enablers to justice.
2. Hold Governor Seyi Makinde and the Oyo CP accountable for shielding killers in uniform and betraying their constitutional duties.
3. Issue a final 24-hour ultimatum for the Governor and CP to publicly address the issue, identify the culprits, and ensure justice is served.
Should they fail to act, NANS Southwest Zone D will lead a massive mobilization to the Oyo State Government House. This time, we will not come alone.

We will be joined by students, parents, youth organizations, and civil rights groups from across the region.
This will be a unified voice of resistance. A generation demanding justice.
We are not afraid. We are not backing down. Enough is enough.
The era of killing students and walking free is over.
Justice must be done and it must be done NOW.
