Hon. Wole Oke, a member of Nigeria's Parliament representing the Ijesha North Federal Constituency for over two decades, stirred controversy recently with a careless remark on his Facebook page.

He asserted that the people of Ijesha North are not slaves, while accusing the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, of neglecting the constituency.

However, many constituents point out that Adeleke's administration, which has been in office for less than three years, has implemented numerous poverty alleviation programs from which Ijesha North has significantly benefitted.

Under the current administration, notable projects have emerged, such as infrastructural improvements at primary health centers in Ijesha North, the construction of 1.5 km roads in each local government area, and the installation of modern borehole systems across all 22 wards in the constituency, contributing to better living conditions.

Critics question why Oke, who appears to be engaged in undermining the reputation of Governor Adeleke, has seemingly chosen to "enslave" the people of Ijesha North rather than advocate for their welfare.

Many allege that Oke has misappropriated resources meant for the community, amassing personal wealth, including ownership of Lead British Schools in major cities like Abuja, Ibadan, and Osogbo, ventures that were expected to create jobs for youth and women if properly situated in Ijesha North.

Moreover, following Oke's recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reports have surfaced that IjeshaNorth constituents he claimed to loved working at his schools were laid off after they refused to align with his new political party, raising concerns about his commitment to his constituents.

Oke's actions have led to widespread discontent among the community members who feel betrayed by a leader they entrusted for over 20 years.

They accuse him of serving his interests while neglecting the common good.

As the prospect of a seventh term looms in 2027, constituents of Ijesha North are making it clear that they refuse to be subjugated any longer.

They express strong intentions to oppose his candidacy and to resist any measures that may further diminish their rights and welfare.
