FROM THE LEADERSHIP OF NANS JCC OSUN AXIS
With a deep sense of responsibility and commitment to the Nigerian student community, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Osun Axis, expresses its profound disappointment over the consistent neglect and abandonment of the students’ welfare and infrastructural concerns by the Osun State Government.
It is disheartening to note that all previous efforts to address these issues through private and diplomatic channels have yielded no result. We have written countless letters, held meetings, and made appeals all of which have been ignored or rendered ineffective.
Despite the commendable efforts of intermediaries such as Hon. Bashir Aderoju, whose role as a bridge between the student body and the government has been instrumental, it is unfortunate that his work has been sidelined and rendered ineffective by the government's inaction.
One of the most pressing issues remains the deplorable condition of the Ada to Iree road , which serves as a major access route for over *10,000 students daily. This road, and others like it, have not only become impassable but have also claimed the lives of innocent students due to avoidable accidents. It is utterly unacceptable that in 2025, such critical infrastructure is left to deteriorate without any intervention.
We, the leadership of NANS Osun JCC, can no longer keep these grievances hidden. We now raise our voices openly, in solidarity with the entire student community, to say enough is enough.
We remind the government that while many of you enjoyed free education in your time, today's students are made to pay exorbitant fees sometimes up to 200% higher than previous rates without any meaningful return in terms of infrastructure or welfare. This is unfair, unjust, and unsustainable.
We are the future of this state. If student leaders are not respected and engaged, then the student community is clearly not regarded as an important stakeholder. This cannot and will not be tolerated any longer.
OUR DEMANDS
1. Immediate commencement of construction on the Ada Iree road, which has claimed the lives of students and continues to pose a grave danger to thousands.
2. Rehabilitation and construction of all major roads leading to student communities across Osun State to ensure safety and ease of transportation.
3. Proper recognition and inclusion of the student community in governance processes, particularly those that directly affect education and youth development.
The students of Osun are watching. We are demanding action, not promises. The time to act is now.
Signed,
*Leadership of NANS JCC Osun Axis*
