The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Osun Joint Campus Council (JCC), ably led by Comrade Solomon Ayobami Abel (AY Aluta), unequivocally describes the leadership of the Osun State House of Assembly as the most incompetent, dramatic, and unserious set of actors in recent history.
Rather than engaging in responsible lawmaking and people-oriented governance, the Assembly has reduced itself to a stage where politics is performed strictly by script, politics over governance, theatrics over substance, and propaganda over responsibility. The students community has suffered gross negligence, deliberate silence, and institutional incompetence at the hands of those elected to protect public interest.
While a very few members of the Assembly remain reasonable and still understand the youthful purpose and struggles of students, the majority have failed woefully. It is therefore not surprising that the so-called youthful trial has collapsed completely, leaving students with nothing to rely on from an institution that should be their legislative backbone.
Most disappointing is the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, who ought to represent youthful ideals and progressive leadership. Instead, the Speaker has chosen a shameful path of political distractions invading imperial homes across the state, engaging in needless conflicts with traditional rulers, chasing cheap popularity, and prioritizing personal relevance over constitutional responsibility. This reckless conduct has brought embarrassment to the office and disappointment to the populace.
To state clearly and categorically:
Seven (7) official letters have been submitted to the Osun State House of Assembly on pressing issues affecting the students populace across the state. Yet, the Assembly particularly the Speaker’s office has consistently refused to act, respond, or show the slightest sense of urgency. This persistent disregard confirms a total failure to be a useful, responsive, and responsible youth-driven institution.
Furthermore, the Speaker’s office is burdened with clear failures, including:
Total neglect of students’ welfare and education-related legislation
Absence of effective oversight on education funding and policies
Abuse of office for political showmanship rather than service
Failure to engage students, youth groups, and civil stakeholders
Erosion of public trust and legislative credibility
You have failed the set that produced you.
You have failed the government you claim to serve.
You have failed the students of Osun State.
NANS Osun JCC hereby places it on record that we will no longer remain silent. The consequences of this continued failure within the bounds of civic, constitutional, and democratic engagement will be firmly pursued. Students will resist negligence, challenge incompetence, and confront irresponsibility wherever it exists.
Enough of the drama.
Enough of the silence.
Enough of the betrayal.
