Itagunmodi, Atakunmosa West local Government, Osun  State  — [27th July 2024]

The youth of Itagunmodi have made an urgent appeal to the government for the upgrading of the Itagunmodi Police Post to a Divisional Police Headquarters. This request is grounded in the government's responsibility to protect the lives and property of its citizens and enhance the security of the Itagunmodi and her neighbouring environs from any potential external threats.

The Itagunmodi Police Post currently serves not only the village of Itagunmodi but also the surrounding communities of Amuta, Ariye, Alaba, Oke Ipa, and Store, Araromi to mention but a few. This extensive coverage area has rendered the existing police post inadequate to effectively manage and respond to the diverse and increasing security challenges faced by these communities.

Alapa Oladapo, the convener of Itagunmodi Frontier, stated, "The current capacity of the Itagunmodi Police Post is insufficient to meet the security needs of our expanding communities. Upgrading to a Divisional Police Headquarters will enable better resource allocation, quicker response times, and a more robust security framework for our region."

On May 30, 2016, our esteemed Kabiyesi, His Royal Majesty Oba Famadewa-Kosile Michael Ojo Olalekan (J.P), the Alagunmodi of Itagunmodi, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen while traveling between Iyere and Itagunmodi.

Since then, we have faced numerous security challenges, including reports of missing farm products, with the perpetrators remaining unidentified. The influx of fellow Nigerians from the northern part of the country, seeking greener pastures, has further underscored the need to bolster our security infrastructure.

The youth of Itagunmodi believe that a safer environment is a yardstick for building a prosperous future for all residents of Itagunmodi and its neighboring areas. This upgrade is seen as a critical step toward achieving this goal, ensuring that law enforcement is well-equipped to handle any security issues promptly and effectively.

In their appeal, the youth emphasize that the establishment of a Divisional Police Headquarters will not only improve security but also foster greater community trust and cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

"Together, we can build a safer and more prosperous future for the people of Itagunmodi and its environs," concluded Alapa Oladapo.

The Itagunmodi Frontier calls on all stakeholders, including local and state government officials, community leaders, and residents, to support this initiative for the betterment of the entire constituency.

Signed,

Alapa Oladapo.

Convener, Itagunmodi Frontier.
