On Behalf of the Ororin of Irorin and the Custodians of Ancient Traditions

We, the AfroCaribbean Chamber of Culture and Tourism, in our capacity as advocates for the preservation of African heritage and traditional systems, are compelled to raise an urgent Save Our Soul appeal concerning the deeply troubling developments in Ilawe-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria.

Our attention has been drawn to ongoing acts of intimidation, victimization, and blatant contempt of court allegedly perpetrated against the Ororin of Irorin, one of the ancient and revered traditional figures of the land. These actions, believed to be instigated by the monarch of Ilawe-Ekiti, represent not only an assault on the person of the Ororin but a dangerous affront to the peaceful coexistence, ancestral protocols, and judicial integrity of the community.

Despite ongoing legal proceedings and standing traditional arrangements that have governed succession and coexistence for generations, there appears to be a calculated attempt to override lawful processes, disrupt harmony, and rewrite cultural order for personal gain. This is not only unlawful—it is an attempt at cultural anarchy.

It is essential to understand that the traditional institutions of Nigeria are not merely ceremonial—they are the living soul of our people. Their desecration undermines the social fabric and calls into question our collective respect for rule of law, justice, and historical continuity.

We therefore make this urgent appeal to:

The Executive Governor of Ekiti State,
The Attorney General of the Federation,
The Inspector General of Police,
The National Council of Traditional Rulers,
The Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism,
Civil society and the international cultural community,

to intervene immediately in the matter and halt any further harassment of the Ororin of Irorin. We call for the strict enforcement of court orders, a return to due process, and the restoration of respect for traditional hierarchies that have ensured peace and dignity for generations.

We emphasize that peace cannot thrive where justice is ignored, and culture cannot flourish where tradition is trampled.

As stakeholders in Africa’s cultural legacy and champions of intergenerational heritage, we call on all well-meaning Nigerians and diaspora partners to stand with the truth and uphold the enduring values of justice, peace, and respect for tradition.

Let us act now—before this situation escalates into crisis.
Let the voice of culture not be silenced by the noise of conflict.

Signed,
On behalf of the President, AfroCaribbean Chamber of Culture and Tourism
And the Immediate Past Head of Culture and Tourism, African Union ECOSOCC
