The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council Osun Axis, led by Comrade Solomon Ayobami Abel, strongly condemns the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for the unprecedented delay in conducting the English Language paper today.
The examination, initially scheduled for an earlier time, was postponed to 7 pm due to alleged leakage of questions, sparking widespread outrage among students and parents.
The leadership of NANS Osun believes that such lapses undermine the credibility of Nigeria's educational system and unfairly burden students who are already facing numerous challenges. We demand that WAEC:
Identify and hold accountable individuals or groups involved in the leakage.
Implement stricter security protocols to prevent future occurrences
Issue a public apology to affected students and their families.
Ensure student safety, particularly in rural areas.
NANS Osun urges WAEC to take immediate action to rebuild trust and ensure the integrity of its examinations. We will escalate this matter if tangible actions are not taken promptly.
As of the time of filing this report, some schools in Ejigbo and Obokun Local Governments had not commenced the examination. Meanwhile, MOLEK Islamic Comprehensive High School and Osogbo Grammar School started the exam with a already which shows reckless monitoring also.
Parents and guardians expressed frustration and concern for their wards' well being, awaiting their safe exit from examination centers.
WAEC must take immediate action to restore trust and ensure the integrity of its examinations. NANS will continue to advocate for students' rights and welfare, escalating this matter if necessary.
