The leadership of the NANS JCC OSUN, NAUS CMC OSUN and General Secretary, NANS Southwest (Zone D) through the Office of the General Secretary, Comr. Oluwole Olutunde Aboke, Comr. Abel Solomon Ayobami, Comr. Adeleke samson okikijesu, vehemently condemns the ongoing illegal withholding of local government allocations meant for the people of Osun State.
We stand in total disapproval of the reckless and politically motivated actions of the Federal Government in the ongoing crisis affecting the local government system in Osun State. We will not keep quiet while our people suffer. We will not fold our arms while the Federal Government turns Osun State into a political battlefield for the interest of one party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the expense of the people, and most painfully, at the cost of Nigerian students' welfare.
WHEN YOU ATTACK LOCAL GOVERNMENT, YOU ATTACK THE STUDENTS
Let it be clear: local governments are not mere administrative units, they are the first point of contact for grassroots development.
They power our scholarship programs, fund youth and student-based initiatives, provide sanitation in our campuses and communities, and contribute to security and transport infrastructure that students rely on every day.
By illegally withholding the constitutionally guaranteed local government allocations for Osun State for February, March, and April 2025 the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is directly undermining student governance and threatening our collective future.
This is not just politics. This is our lives, our education, and our dignity being trampled on by a system prioritizing partisan gains over the constitutional rights of a federating unit. *WE SAY NO TO PARTISAN SELECTIVITY AND ILLEGALITY.* We are not ignorant of the situation.
The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), under the guise of a controversial court judgment, has chosen to side with APC loyalists, threatening the democratic and judicial independence of Osun State.
The coordinated attempt to divert or delay funds from the democratically elected PDP-led local governments, and to redirect them to the sacked APC chairmen against the will of the Osun people, is a gross violation of Section 162(6) of the 1999 Constitution and a disgraceful abuse of power.
Where in the law is it written that federal allocation should be weaponized to settle party scores? This brazen act of political favoritism, while other states in similar legal battles still receive their allocations reveals the bias of the Federal Government under President Tinubu. This is not leadership; this is dictatorship in disguise.
On behalf of the student constituency in Osun State and the entire Southwest zone, we give the Federal Government seven (7) days until Wednesday, 12th June 2025 at 11:59 p.m to:
1. Unfreeze and release all withheld local government allocations due to Osun State.
2. Withdraw any plan to fund illegal APC chairmen against the mandate of the people.
3. Respect the sovereignty of Osun State and uphold federalism in practice, not only in theory.
If this ultimatum is ignored, we will not hesitate to mobilize across all institutions in the Southwest:
- We will occupy federal roads and offices in Osun, Ibadan, Lagos, and Abuja;
-We will declare a total academic shutdown across Osun campuses in protest;
-We will take legal action to defend the constitutional rights of our people;
-And we will speak to the nation and the world until justice is served.
PRESIDENT TINUBU, THE CHOICE IS YOURS
You cannot claim to be a product of democracy while frustrating it in Osun. You cannot preach federalism while practicing favoritism. And you cannot say you love young people while your policies keep us under.
We call on President Tinubu to end this attack on Osun State. Stop the persecution. Release the funds. Respect the people.
We are watching. We are ready. And we will resist oppression in any form.
ALUTA CONTINUA, VICTORIA ASCERTA!
