NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS
JOINT CAMPUS COUNCIL, OSUN AXIS
Date: 26th February, 2026
PRESS STATEMENT
The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC) Osun Axis strongly condemns the distribution of poor-grade and adulterated petrol allegedly sold by SAOYAD Filling Station, Iree, Osun State, which has resulted in severe mechanical damage to vehicles, including the official NANS JCC Osun bus and another private vehicle.
This unfortunate development became evident after a professional auto technician conducted a thorough assessment and confirmed that the fuel purchased from the said filling station was co-mixed with other petroleum products, thereby causing significant harm to the affected vehicles.
Further disturbing is the revelation from several students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, who attested that this is not an isolated incident, but a recurring situation they have endured for some time. They also raised serious concerns about unjustified extra charges on fuel, describing the practice as exploitative, inhumane, and highly unfriendly to students who already struggle with economic challenges.
The actions of SAOYAD Filling Station, if not urgently investigated, pose a serious threat not only to students but to the entire Iree community. The sale of adulterated fuel is an economic sabotage, a violation of consumer rights, and a direct danger to public safety.
OUR DEMANDS
1. We call on the relevant regulatory authorities, including the appropriate petroleum regulatory agencies and consumer protection bodies, to immediately investigate the activities of SAOYAD Filling Station, Iree.
2. The management and staff of the filling station must be thoroughly probed and held accountable if found culpable.
3. Adequate measures must be put in place to prevent further distribution of adulterated fuel within the community.
ADVISORY TO STUDENTS
In the interest of protecting lives and property, we hereby strongly advise all students and residents of Iree to temporarily refrain from purchasing fuel from the said filling station until a proper investigation is concluded and the station is certified safe for public patronage.
NANS JCC Osun remains committed to defending the welfare, safety, and economic interests of Nigerian students at all times. We will not hesitate to take further lawful steps to ensure that justice is served on this matter.
