PRESS STATEMENT
The Leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) JCC Osun Axis extends its profound appreciation to the Government of Osun State, ably led by His Excellency, Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke, for his rigorous support toward the welfare of students across the state.
Out of many requests presented before this administration, Mr. Governor has shown commitment and responsiveness that keeps hope alive within the students community. Indeed, he remains a hope of certainty that other pending requests will be executed in due course.
We also sincerely appreciate the Honourable Commissioner for Education and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Matters for their continued engagement and understanding. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and we tap deeply from our well of inspiration to commend you.
However, as a responsible and people-driven students’ body, we must speak truth with courage and clarity.
It has been over seven months since the approval of the construction of the Iree and Ada Road, roads that have unfortunately become traps of danger, claiming and threatening the lives of students. Just as recently as on Monday this week , another incident reminded us that these roads are not mere infrastructure; they are lifelines.
We understand the economic realities of the state, and we acknowledge the pressures of governance. But students lives must never wait in the queue of bureaucracy. When a project is approved, especially one tied directly to safety, its execution should be treated as urgent and non-negotiable.
Going forward, the promise of constructing 5 kilometers of road on each campus across the state remains unattended. These commitments were not made in whispers; they were made in the presence of hope. We therefore call for immediate action and visible progress on these approved projects.
Our belief in Mr. Governor remains firm, but belief must meet action. The time for execution is now. Those roads are taking students lives, and every delay carries consequences.
On the matter of mobility for union leadership across campuses, we note that only Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has benefited from the provision of mobility support. While we commend this gesture, equity demands that other campuses should not be left behind.
Mobility buses are not luxuries, they are essential tools for effective coordination, welfare monitoring, and representation of students interests across institutions. We therefore urge the government to treat this as a matter of urgency and extend the same support to all campuses within Osun State.
We speak not out of rebellion, but out of responsibility.We demand not out of disrespect, but out of duty, We remain partners in progress, but we will not be silent when students safety and welfare are at stake.
The Leadership of NANS JCC Osun looks forward to the immediate execution of the approved projects. The lives of Osun students must remain a top priority at all times, without exception.
