In a bid to further the campaign against drug abuse among Nigerian students, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Office of the Secretary General, NANS Southwest (Zone D) in collaboration with Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Osun Axis paid a courtesy visit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Osun State Command.

The meeting, led by the Secretary General, NANS Southwest (Zone D), alongside the Chairman, NANS/JCC Osun, Chairman, NAUS CMC Osun, Caretaker Chairman, OSPOLY SU, and other key student leaders, focused on establishing a sustainable relationship between NANS, Students’ Unions across Osun campuses, and the NDLEA.

Discussions centered on:

Strengthening collaboration for campus sensitization on “Say No to Drugs and Drug Abuse” campaigns.

Organizing a Walk Against Drug Abuse in commemoration of the 2025 International Students’ Day.

Inclusion of student representatives as NDLEA Ambassadors, ensuring that notable student leaders and youth influencers are part of the national anti-drug movement.

Encouraging NDLEA to always involve the student constituency in its empowerment and advocacy programs.

The delegation commended the State Commander, NDLEA Osun State Command, Commander Adetula Oluwarotimi Lawal, for his open-minded leadership, peaceful dialogue, and readiness to partner with the student movement on meaningful initiatives.

Commander Adetula, in his response, appreciated the NANS team for their proactive engagement and assured them of continuous support towards eradicating drug abuse among students and youths in Osun State.

The Secretary General, NANS Southwest, also urged other NANS/JCC Chairmen and Students’ Union leaders across Nigeria to build cordial relationships with the NDLEA Commands in their respective states as this partnership is vital in curbing drug-related vices and promoting a drug-free generation.

Furthermore, NANS appealed to NDLEA to look critically into the promotion of drug culture in the Nigerian music industry, emphasizing the need for stronger regulatory measures as the entertainment sector remains a major influence on youth behavior.

The meeting ended with mutual commitments to work closely for a cleaner, safer, and drug-free student community in Osun and across Southwest Nigeria.
