Pelumi Olajengbesi has unveiled plans to revive grassroots sports in the federal constituency in a major push to empower young people and foster unity across Oriade and Obokun.
Olajengbesi, who is contesting the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency seat under the Accord Party, said sports remains a powerful tool for youth engagement, talent discovery and community bonding.
He lamented that despite being blessed with energetic and talented youths from Ijebu-Jesa to Ipetu-Ijesa to Ilare, and from Otan to Esa-Oke, among others the constituency has lacked deliberate efforts to harness their potential, leaving many talents to waste.
According to him, his sports revival blueprint will feature an annual Oriade/Obokun Inter-Community Football Tournament, provision of sports kits and equipment to local clubs, and a talent discovery programme to sponsor outstanding players to state, national and international platforms.
Olajengbesi added that the initiative will go beyond football to include athletics and indigenous sports to ensure wider participation among youths.
"For us, this is beyond football. It is about giving our youths a sense of belonging, creating opportunities from their passion, keeping them away from vices, and using sports to bring our communities together as one people," he said.
He assured that youth development will be top priority under his representation, with sports serving as a major driver of unity, job creation and communal pride in Oriade/Obokun.
